Top 5 lame excuses why people don’t work out

We all know exercise is good for us, our kids know exercise is good, even the Government know exercise is good and yet we struggle to get enough of it. However exercise can be so quick and easy to undertake. Here is a list of lame excuses and how to get over them.

Lack of time

The number one excuse and yes I agree we are all busier than ever, but we have workouts that you can do in less than 15 minutes. It takes you longer to get you trainers on and have a shower afterwards. One of the key principles of exercise is the intensity. Often you can get just as effective a workout from a short high intensity 15 minute burst as you would from a slow steady hour.

I don’t know where to start

Ok, a big gym can be a little bit daunting when you first arrive and there are now so many options to get a bit fitter. You could take a class, lift weights, jog on the treadmill, swing a kettlebell. However all our clubs have fully qualified, experienced and helpful staff on hand to guide you in the right direction. Furthermore, if you opt for the Premier membership you get web access and an app with over 6000 exercise, 750 workouts, 400 classes and direct access to support from our online personal training team, who will answer all you fitness questions by email.

I don’t need to workout because I’m active enough

True, you may well be. If you have a very active, strenuous job, you may well be burning off all the calories you need to maintain a healthy weight and a trim physique. However the principle of exercise is that you overload the body, which essentially means, to undertake something that pushes you past your normal limits. If you want to get leaner, stronger, faster or healthier, you generally need to keep challenging yourself. A gym allows you to do this easily. If you start to go quick at work, your colleague might ask you to slow down in case you show them up.

I can’t afford to workout.

This is just plain lame. Go for a run, or a brisk walk, do some press ups at home. Ok, so you need to be pretty motivated to do this, especially when the weather is cold and wet, but again we have just knocked this excuse on the head. Our virtual membership starts at just £4.95 per month and will keep you flooded with fresh workout ideas for years. Full access to the gym and all classes is only £15.95 per month.  That’s no even 50p per day! Stop spending money on rubbish and commit to investing in you!

I can’t work out because I have an injury

If you have an injury, you certainly need to get a proper diagnosis, but there is very little that will stop you from exercise. In fact in most cases some properly prescribed exercise will generally help to help injury and prevent further flare ups. If you have an upper body injury, then maybe you could just work on lower body exercises, equally the same applies for lower body injuries. Just get it diagnosed and then aim to get started.
